The soca fraternity will come together next Saturday to raise $1 million for the Warriors. On Wednesday history was created as the T&T team qualified for the Fifa World Cup finals for the first time after a Dennis Lawrence header earned Leo Beenhakker’s men a famous 1-0 victory in Bahrain.
The show, which is being dubbed the biggest soca event ever, will be put on by Randy Glasgow Productions and Neil “Iwer” George.
“It’s a gift from the soca fraternity to all the players,” Glasgow said in an interview yesterday.
The promoter said the idea came to him yesterday during a meeting.
He said he called Iwer and they both started contacting the artistes immediately.
“The show will feature five big bands, including Bunji and the Asylum, Traffik with Shurwayne Winchester, KMC and Red, Black and White and Invazion,” he said.
“Twenty soca stars like Denyse Belfon, Maximus Dan, Patrice Roberts, Destra and Blakie are also scheduled to perform.”
Glasgow said several sponsors, including Carib, Angostura and TSTT, had already come forward and more would be approached.
He said after all expenses the proceeds will go to the Warriors with the aim of raising $1 million.
Glasgow said the organisers are also planning to meet with Fifa vice president Jack Warner to ask him to rename the T&T team the Soca Warriors.
During the Concacaf qualifying campaign the T&T Football Federation said the “soca” would be dropped and the team would simply be called the Warriors instead.
